美人 江山

江山如此多娇
引无数英雄竞折腰

不爱江山爱美人
美人只爱君江山
丢了江山失美人
还是江山有美人

Shame on this company

I am so pissed off with this Singapore “Service Portal” 88DB.com which own by jobsDB.

What I found out last night (I do regular search on myself in google) shocked me!

This website, without my approval, take my email and create a profile for me, without inform me, and listed me as one of their freelance photographer contact and *help* me to create a list of (their imagination) services *I* offer.

Further more, they grab a photo from my flickr and uploaded themselves, again without my acknowledgment!

Industrial Design in Singapore

I was visiting this exhibition at Basheer Gallery while Jeffery want to do the measurement for the Grey Matter Photo Exhibition in the same gallery. The exhibition “Mailbox Forensics” was organised by NUS, probably the industrial design student. To be frank, I was shock to see such a poor quality of product design, showcasing the childish and brainless design of mailbox and claims to be a selective work from student. Not to mention how bad is the finishing of the work.

I am not sure what’s wrong with the education of singapore production design or is that our design foundation is so weak or the lack of direction and and inspiration from the lecturer. But I think the lack of basic foundation and understanding of design principal is the key and you know who to blame!

The subject is all alright, a mailbox. First, let’s talk about idea. Product design has to takes on solving the living style needs as priority, as equally important as aesthetic. In fact, the creativity or innovation is here to solve the existing problem. What I seen on all the exhibition work, none of them show in this respect. For an example, electronic mail has slowly replacing the traditional mail document, so beside the bills, government letter, more often we will used the postage for large item like magazine subscription, catalogue, etc. The mailbox should have take the needs into consideration.

Second, the design aesthetic. Not to mention 80% of the resident staying in the HDB flat, even with landed property, I don’t think any of the exhibit design fits into the house. Quite a number of the design using the transparent material, just ask the designer, if there’s a mail drop in your mailbox, do you want people who passing by take a peak on your mail items?

I know the transparent material could look nice in some cases, but there’s many other solutions not to make the content exposed. Another big issue is that lot of them have hole all over the place, they must have forgotten something call rain.

And I also cannot agree about the bulky in size, even the aesthetic has fail.

Third, the Finishing. I have nothing to say, it looks like a secondary school work.

Finally, I hope what I’ve seen today is not the future of what singapore capable for product design, else, this country has hopeless for that industry.

You banned yours, I access mine.

I was surprised to see Flickr has been banned in China, and only blocked the images from being view, rather then usual domain or IP block which is something new to me. I understand the motive (must be some user has uploaded sensitive issue images that caught their attention) but I cannot agree and accept the way it handles.

Anyway, I found a Firefox extension that by passing the issue (in fact some country has banned the site totally like Iran, UAE and Saudi). It again prove that forbidden action is not the way to prevent, others will still find way to reach their objective. The more rules you have, the more threat you have to take care.

I am not blaming the rules in other place but we should appreciate what we have currently in your living place, appreciate it and protect it.

Meanwhile, enjoy my recent photo in Cheng Du, and once again I can view all my buddies posting, ha.

Young Man

I’ve had a bad experience over the weekend, twice, with the young man.It was at an ice-cream chain store, and after I made my purchase. The young man at the casher return me the change with the greeting, something like thank you, please come again, good bye. When he said that, his head is looking elsewhere, money holding on his hand waiting for you to get it.

Of course, this doesn’t piss me off. Young one, you properly think that this job is not for you, you are better elsewhere; you are much capable then being a waiter, or you are waiting for your beautiful certificate. But the fact is that you will not be good at anything you thought you would be because you can’t even accomplish a simple task as a waiter. That tell your personality quality, not how the paper say you are. You are just dreaming for a better life that you can never get with your attitude.

I am only sad for you. But I wish you will understand soon, not until it was too late.

The 2nd guy really pisses me off. I was in front of a shopping center after a movie. He approached me for some survey. While he trying to explain to me the detail, I was taking a glance at the paper. 10 sec later I just told him off that I am not interested. While I walked away, he greets me with “NNMCCB”. What a damn good attitude. I turned back and ask what did he say, he said nothing. I do not wish to pick up a fight, but he certainly ruins my mood.

For now I can’t remember the survey title and the company’s name, which I wish I could. I should filling up that survey and feedback to the company. He needs to be lessoned.
